Nate Colbert and Fred Kendall each drove in three runs to lead the Padres past the Phillies, 7-6, and give rookie hurler Dave Freisleben his third straight victory. Kendall cracked a two-run homer in the second off loser Steve Carlton, and the Padres made it 3-0 in third on Enzo Hernandez' double and Colbert's single.

Larry Bowa's triple, following a single by Dave Cash, plus an infield out pulled the Phillies to within one in the fourth, but Colbert doubled home two more runs in the fifth. Bill Robinson and Bob Boone had RBI hits in the seventh for Philadelphia to cut the Padre lead to one again. San Diego added their final two runs in the eighth on a single by Dave Winfield, Fred Kendall's double, an error, intentional walk and groundout.
