Steve Stone, who went from the Giants to the White Sox before returning to the N. L., gained his first victory of the season when the Cubs defeated the Braves, 3-2. However, with a 3-0 lead, Stone faltered in the ninth inning and the Cubs had to call on two relievers to put down the Braves' rally. Stone departed after giving up a double to Darrell Evans and walking Davey Johnson. With Horacio Pina on the mound, the Braves scored on a throwing error by Billy Williams and sacrifice fly by Johnny Oates. Pina then walked pinch-hitter Hank Aaron and struck out Marty Perez before Jim Kremmel came in and retired Ralph Garr on a grounder to end the game. [The Sporting News]
