Back-to-back homers by Dave Winfield and Fred Kendall off reliever Dave Wallace, who had just entered the game in the 13th inning, powered the Padres to a 5-3 victory over the Phillies. The Padres counted their first three runs in the second on a walk to Kendall, homer by Derrel Thomas, pass to Dave Roberts, infield hit by Steve Arlin and double by Enzo Hernandez. The Phillies knotted the count in the seventh. Dave Cash was hit by a pitch, Larry Bowa singled and Del Unser doubled them home.
