With help from Rollie Fingers, who relieved in the eighth inning, Vida Blue gained his first victory of the season when the Athletics defeated the Orioles, 7-3. Blue gave up a run in the seventh on a double by Don Baylor and single by Jim Fuller before being lifted after Tommy Davis singled and Earl Williams homered in the eighth.

The A's jumped on Jim Palmer for three runs in the first on doubles by Bill North and Bert Campaneris and singles by Reggie Jackson, Deron Johnson and Gene Tenace. A walk to North, stolen base and single by Campaneris added a run in the second. Tenace finished off Palmer with a homer in the third. [The Sporting News]
