| Jon Matlack equaled his career high for strikeouts in a game with 12 and allowed only four hits while pitching the Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Giants. Matlack did not issue a pass. On the other hand, John D'Acquisto gave up three passes in the second inning when the Mets scored their first three runs. With two out, Ken Boswell walked and scored on a triple by Jerry Grote. Passes to Matlack and Bud Harrelson loaded the bases and Felix Millan capitalized on the opportunity with a two-run single.
