Don Sutton, allowing only a single by Johnny Grubb in the second inning, posted the third one-hitter of his career in pitching the Dodgers to a 6-0 victory over the Padres. Jim Wynn had three hits and Bill Buckner two in the Dodgers' support of Sutton. Wynn singled in the first inning and scored on an error and a sacrifice fly by Ron Cey. Singles by Buckner and Wynn, together with an infield out by Steve Garvey, added a tally in the sixth. Buckner singled and Wynn tripled for another run in the eighth before the Dodgers wound up with their final trio in the ninth, two scoring on a pinch-double by Manny Mota. [The Sporting News]
