. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The relief pitching of Rollie Fingers, who rescued Ken Holtzman from a jam in the sixth inning, enabled the Athletics to defeat the Twins, 4-1. After Rod Carew singled and Tony Oliva doubled for the Twins' run, Holtzman walked Harmon Killebrew before leaving the game with one out. Fingers relieved and on his first pitch Eric Soderholm grounded into a double play.

A double by Gene Tenace, triple by Bert Campaneris and homer by Deron Johnson were among the A's run-scoring hits. Two A's, Reggie Jackson and Dal Maxvill, suffered disabling injuries. Jackson pulled the hamstring in his right leg and Maxvill, playing in his second game after returning to the A's as a free agent following his release by the Pirates, was spiked on the left shin in a play at second base.
