. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A three-run homer in the first by John Ellis carried the Indians and Jim Perry to a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. Ellis, hitting safely in all but one of Cleveland's last 15 games, tagged loser Luis Tiant for a homer after a single by John Lowenstein and Dick McAuliffe's error which allowed Buddy Bell to reach base. McAuliffe singled home the only Bosox run in the second after Bernie Carbo had doubled. Perry allowed only two other hits over the seven innings he worked before being relieved by Tom Buskey, who worked out of a two-on, no-out jam. The Indians scored their final run in the seventh on singles by Charlie Spikes and George Hendrick and a sacrifice fly by Dave Duncan. [The Sporting News]
