Don Sutton decided his own pitching duel with Larry Dierker by batting in a run with a bloop single in the second inning to give the Dodgers a 1-0 victory over the Astros. The shutout was his second straight and third of the year for Sutton, who allowed four hits. Dierker yielded only two hits in six innings on the mound. However in the second, the Dodgers loaded the bases when Willie Crawford and Ron Cey walked and Steve Yeager was hit by a pitch. Bill Russell forced Crawford at the plate, but Sutton looped his single for the game's only run.
