The Giants' acquisition of Mike Caldwell from the Padres continued to pay dividends when the lefthander hurled a five-hitter and shut out the Reds, 4-0, for his sixth victory against one defeat. A triple by Gary Thomasson and infield out by Tito Fuentes started the Giants' scoring in the first inning. Garry Maddox knocked in a run with a double in the third and then homered in the sixth before the Giants added their last run on a triple by Dave Rader and grounder by Fuentes in the seventh.
