Ron Bryant gained his first victory of the season when the Giants won the nightcap of a doubleheader, 5-4, after losing the opener to the Braves, 4-1. The Giants began the lidlifter with a run on a walk to Bobby Bonds, a sacrifice, an infield out and single by Ed Goodson. John D'Acquisto protected the lead until the eighth when the Braves erupted for all their runs. Norm Miller, batting for Carl Morton, tied the score with a homer. After Ralph Garr tripled, Elias Sosa replaced D'Acquisto and retired Marty Perez, but when Dusty Baker grounded to Steve Ontiveros, the third baseman threw wildly to the plate, allowing Garr to score. Another error, this time by Bonds, and a single by Frank Tepedino accounted for the final two runs.

In the second game, the Giants picked up an unearned run in the first inning before the Braves scored all their runs off Bryant in the third. The Giants came back with two in their half on a walk to Ontiveros and inside-the-park homer by Garry Maddox. The tying and winning tallies followed in the fifth on doubles by Maddox and Goodson, a single by Gary Matthews and sacrifice fly by Chris Speier. [The Sporting News]
