. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Although tagged for 12 hits, George Stone lasted the route and also helped himself at bat with a pair of two-run singles as the Mets defeated Cubs, 10-5. Stone barely survived the first inning, giving up three runs on a triple by Jerry Morales with the bases loaded. Stone got two runs back with a single in the second, then the Mets erupted for six runs in the third.

George Theodore singled, Cleon Jones walked and John Milner singled to drive in the tying run. Ray Burris replaced Ken Frailing and failed in relief. Jerry Grote singled and Dave Schneck doubled, each driving in a run. Ted Martinez tripled to add two more before scoring himself on a wild pitch. Rick Monday batted in a run for the Cubs with a double in the seventh. Stone hit his second two-run single in the Mets' half before Carmen Fanzone accounted for the Cubs' last run with a homer in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
