. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Astros ended a 10-game losing streak by defeating the Padres, 5-4, with the aid of Milt May's first homer in a Houston uniform. Nate Colbert homered with a man on base for the Padres in the first inning, but the Astros came back with four runs, two scoring on May's drive. Tom Griffin then doubled in the fifth and counted what proved to be the winning run on a single by Roger Metzger. The Padres put together doubles by Bobby Tolan, Dave Winfield and Colbert for two runs in the eighth before Fred Scherman relieved Griffin and quelled the rally. [The Sporting News]
