Staked to a five-run lead by the Indians in the first inning, Gaylord Perry breezed to his eighth straight victory, shutting out the Rangers, 8-0. John Lowenstein reached base on an error by Toby Harrah to start the game, Jack Brohamer singled and both runners scored on a double by Leron Lee. John Ellis followed with a triple and Oscar Gamble singled for two more runs. Gamble stole second, moved to third on a grounder and scored the fifth run on a second error by Harrah.
