With two out in the ninth inning, the Astros loaded the bases and scored two runs on a single by Bob Watson to defeat the Expos, 5-3. Greg Gross drew a walk, Roger Metzger singled and Cesar Cedeno also walked before Watson rapped his single off Tom Walker. Gross drove in the Astros' first two runs with a triple in the fifth to tie the score at 2-2. Tommy Helms walked, stole second and scored on a double by Claude Osteen to put the Astros ahead in the seventh, but the Expos tied the game in their half when Hal Breeden doubled and Larry Lintz, running for him, scored on a single by Jim Cox.
