Tony Perez smashed a homer with two out in the 10th inning to carry the Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Mets. The Reds scored their first run in the second when Dave Concepcion forced Perez, stole second and came home on a single by Maerv Rettenmund. Don Gullett singled and Pete Rose doubled for another run in the third.

Gullett was working on a two-hitter until the seventh when the Mets tied the score with consecutive homers by Cleon Jones and John Milner. Pedro Borbon and Clay Carroll also pitched for the Reds, with the victory going to Carroll. Harry Parker was the loser after taking over for Jon Matlack, who was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 10th. [The Sporting News]
