After the Giants scored four runs in the first inning, Bobby Bonds belted a homer in the seventh to beat the Cubs, 5-4. The Giants started the game by loading the bases with singles by Tito Fuentes and Garry Maddox and a pass to Steve Ontiveros. Gary Thomasson doubled to drive in two runs. Mike Phillips walked to fill the sacks again and Dave Rader singled to plate another pair. The Cubs came back with two runs in the third on singles by Billy Williams, Jose Cardenal and Rick Monday, together with an infield out by Jerry Morales, before tying the score in the eighth on a bases-loaded single by pinch-hitter Chris Ward.
