After falling behind by four runs, the Rangers battled their way back with the aid of three hits by Lenny Randle to defeat the Orioles, 7-6. The Orioles took their four-run lead in the first inning when Rich Coggins singled and scored on a double by Bobby Grich, Tommy Davis singled and Boog Powell smashed a homer. The Rangers got one run back in their half, but the Orioles made it 5-1 in the second on a double by Earl Williams and single by Mark Belanger.

The Rangers then picked up a tally in their half of the second and tied the score in the fourth with three runs on successive singles by Toby Harrah, Leo Cardenas, Jim Sundberg, Cesar Tovar and Randle. The Orioles regained the lead in the fifth when Grich tripled and Don Baylor singled. The Rangers pulled even in the sixth and pushed over the deciding run in the seventh. In the sixth, singles by Jim Spencer, Sundberg and Randle produced the tying tally. Jeff Burroughs singled in the seventh, Jim Fregosi walked and Harrah won the game with a single.
