The relief pitching of Steve Mingori, who put down a bases-loaded threat with none out in the fifth inning, enabled the Royals to defeat the Indians, 4-2. Amos Otis batted in two runs for the Royals with a single in the top half of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie before the Indians came back with singles by George Hendrick, Dave Duncan and Frank Duffy to fill the sacks and chase Al Fitzmorris.

Mingori gave up a sacrifice fly by John Lowenstein for one run, but then struck out Jack Brohamer and retired Leron Lee on a grounder. John Mayberry padded the Royals' lead with a homer in the sixth. Mingori pitched four hitless innings before Doug Bird took over in the ninth inning to finish up the contest. [The Sporting News]
