Bill Russell, Bill Buckner and Rick Auerbach each collected three of the Dodgers' 15 hits in an 8-3 victory over the Cubs. With two out in the fourth inning, the Dodgers scored twice to break a 2-2 tie. Auerbach and Doug Rau singled and when Rick Monday fumbled Rau's hit in center field, Auerbach raced home. Rau took second on the error, moved to third on an infield hit by Russell and scored on a bunt single by Buckner. The Dodgers put the game on ice with three runs in the seventh, all unearned as the result of an error by Dave Rosello. Rau, who pitched six innings for the Dodgers, was the winner, but Mike Marshall hurled the last three frames in his 31st appearance of the season. [The Sporting News]
