A bases-loaded triple by Johnny Bench in the seventh inning provided the Reds with a 7-5 victory over the Pirates. Bob Robertson hit two homers and drove in three runs to pace the Pirates to a 5-3 lead before the Reds rallied in the seventh. Cesar Geronimo walked and Pete Rose singled. After throwing two balls to Joe Morgan, Jim Rooker gave way to Ramon Hernandez, who completed the issuance of the pass to load the bases. Bench then hit his triple.
