Two doubles by Garry Maddox and a homer by Ed Goodson paced the Giants' attack in a 6-2 victory over the Phillies. A single by Larry Bowa and triple by Greg Luzinski produced a run for the Phillies in the first inning before Goodson homered in the second. The Phillies added their second run in the third on a double by Dave Cash, bunt by Bowa and sacrifice fly by Mike Schmidt.

Maddox then went into action, hitting a double in the fourth and scoring on a single by Steve Ontiveros. Bobby Bonds doubled in the sixth and counted the go-ahead run on Maddox' second two-bagger. The Giants clinched the verdict with their final three runs in the ninth on a walk and singles by Chris Speier, Gary Thomasson, Dave Rader and Bonds. [The Sporting News]
