Two homers by Rico Petrocelli and one by Tommy Harper, each with a man on base, helped power the Red Sox to a 9-7 victory over the White Sox. Petrocelli's first homer came in the third inning when the Red Sox scored five times to take a 5-3 lead. Harper added his two-run blow in the fourth. After the White Sox picked up a pair in the fifth, Carl Yastrzemski walked in the Red Sox half and Petrocelli hit his second homer of the game to provide the winning margin. Bill Melton homered for the White Sox in the eighth and Dick Allen hit for the circuit in the ninth to account for his fourth RBI of the game. [The Sporting News]
