Larry Hisle's one-out, bases-loaded, 12th-inning single scored the winning run as the Twins nipped the Red Sox, 5-4, and rewarded Bill Hands with his first victory in five decisions for 4 2/3 frames of hitless relief hurling. Steve Braun opened the Minnesota 12th with a single and stole second. Passes to Tony Oliva and Eric Soderholm filled the sacks after Bobby Darwin flied out. Hisle's game-winning blow followed.

After the Twins had taken an early 3-0 lead, Boston tied the score in the fifth with the aid of a two-run homer by Carlton Fisk. The Twins took a 4-3 lead in the seventh when Rod Carew walked and tallied on singles by Braun and Oliva, but the Sox tied it again on an error by Luis Gomez in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
