Aided by Grant Jackson's fine relief work, the Orioles eked out a 4-3 decision over the Royals. Tommy Davis drove in two runs to help the Orioles take a 3-0 lead before the Royals dented the plate when Amos Otis doubled and sped home on John Mayberry's sixth-inning single. The Orioles made it 4-1 in the home half when Brooks Robinson singled, Earl Williams walked and Mark Belanger singled in Robbie with what proved to be the deciding tally. The Royals erupted for two runs in the seventh, but Jackson arrived on the scene in time to put down the rally and preserve the triumph. [The Sporting News]
