Cesar Geronimo, who entered the game as a pinch-runner in the seventh inning and remained in the lineup as the center fielder, knocked in two runs with a triple in the 10th and scored himself on a sacrifice fly by Pete Rose to bring the Reds a 6-3 victory over the Mets. Pedro Borbon singled and stopped at third on a double by George Foster before Geronimo came up with one out and hit his triple. The Reds tied the score at 3-3 in the seventh when Dan Driessen, hitless in his 16 previous times at bat, appeared as a pinch-hitter with the bases loaded and drove in two runs with a single.
