The Red Sox provided Luis Tiant with his fifth straight victory by defeating the Twins, 5-3. Boston's scoring started with two runs in the fourth inning on singles by Juan Beniquez, Dwight Evans, Rico Petrocelli and Carlton Fisk. An error by Dave Goltz resulted in an unearned run in the fifth. Rick Burleson drove in Bernie Carbo with a single in the sixth and Tommy Harper clinched the victory with a homer in the ninth.

Jerry Terrell, filling in for Rod Carew at second base for the Twins, had two hits and scored twice. Larry Hisle accounted for the Twins' other run with a homer in the seventh inning. [The Sporting News]
