The wildness of Ray Burris, who took over in relief in the eighth inning, resulted in the Cubs losing to the Padres, 4-3. Burris first hit Johnny Grubb with a pitch. Rod Gaspar, coming in to run, advanced to third on two successive wild pitches. On Burris' next delivery, Fred Kendall doubled to drive in the Padres' winning run. [The Sporting News]
