The Athletics, who drew 10 walks and turned five of them into runs, piled up a 9-1 victory over the Tigers with the aid of a grand-slam homer by Gene Tenace. Joe Coleman, who suffered his fifth straight defeat, was lifted with two men on base in the fifth inning. Dave Lemanczyk, in relief, issued an intentional pass to load the bases before Tenace connected for his circuit clout. Deron Johnson added a homer for the A's in the seventh.
