Although tagged for 10 hits, Doc Medich came close to a shutout while pitching the Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the White Sox, who did not score until Ken Henderson homered in the ninth inning. The Yankees counted twice in the first, loading the bases and getting their runs on a sacrifice fly by Ron Blomberg and single by Elliott Maddox. Two more runs followed in the fourth when Bill Sudakis and Rick Dempsey singled, Jim Mason sacrificed and Gene Michael singled.
