Andy Messersmith turned in his second shutout of the season and 11th to the credit of the Dodgers' staff with a five-hit, 6-0 victory over the Pirates. Steve Garvey singled and Ron Cey homered in the fourth inning to give Messersmith more than enough runs to win. Garvey batted in two other runs with a sacrifice fly and single. [The Sporting News]
