Fire broke out in a concession stand in the eighth inning, causing a delay of one hour and 10 minutes before the White Sox completed an 8-6 victory over the Angels. Dick Allen homered with two men on base in the third inning when the White Sox scored four times. The Red Sox, who had a homer by Bernie Carbo in the first, went ahead, 5-4, with four runs in the fifth on a walk, three singles and a sacrifice fly, plus an error. However, the White Sox came back with three runs in their half. After three passes loaded the bases, Bill Melton scored on an error, Jorge Orta walked to force in Ron Santo, and Brian Downing crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
