After both Al Kaline and Dick Sharon failed with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Jim Northrup came through with a two-out single, scoring John Knox, to give the Tigers a 5-4 victory over the Angels. Knox bunted safely to open the frame and reached third on a wild throw by John Cumberland. Dick Selma then replaced Cumberland and almost pitched out of the jam before Northrup won the game with his single. The Angels built up a 4-0 lead with the aid of a two-run homer by Dave Chalk, but the Tigers rallied to tie the score in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
