Staging their best offensive show of the season, the White Sox piled up 18 hits and trounced the Red Sox, 13-6, before a Bat Night crowd of 42,096. The Red Sox took a brief 4-3 lead when Rico Petrocelli homered in the sixth inning, but the White Sox exploded for seven runs in their half. A single by Bill Sharp, an infield out and error by Petrocelli on an infield hit by Brian Downing accounted for the first run in the outburst. Dick Allen added two more with a homer. The White Sox then loaded the bases and Ron Santo capped the stanza with a grand-slam homer.
