Billy Williams, who entered the game as a pinch-hitter and singled in the ninth inning, remained in the Cubs' lineup and doubled a run home in the 11th to defeat the Dodgers, 6-5. Jerry Morales helped put the Cubs in front, 4-2, with a homer, triple and double, but the Dodgers tied the score in the sixth when Jim Wynn and Joe Ferguson walked and Bill Russell doubled. Wynn singled to put the Dodgers ahead in the seventh.

The Cubs then forced game into overtime with the tying run in the ninth on singles by Bill Madlock and Williams and a sacrifice fly by Don Kessinger. In the 11th, George Mitterwald walked and yielded the paths to Ken Frailing, who advanced to second on a sacrifice before scoring on Williams' hit. [The Sporting News]
