. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Thanks to pinch-hitter Tommy Hutton, who singled in the ninth inning to set up the winning run, Steve Carlton was able to pitch the Phillies to a 6-5 victory over the Reds. After batting for Carlton and coming through with his hit, Hutton scored on a double by Dave Cash. The Reds scored all their runs on two homers by Bill Plummer and one by Johnny Bench. Plummer's first drive followed a double by George Foster in the fifth inning.

The Phillies came back with three runs in their half for a 4-2 lead, but Plummer homered again in the seventh with the bases empty. Mike Schmidt connected for the circuit in the Phillies' half, but the Reds tied the score in the eighth when Joe Morgan doubled and Bench homered. [The Sporting News]
