The Astros' failure to execute a double play in the 14th inning resulted in a 6-5 loss to the Mets. With one out, John Milner doubled. Don Hahn was passed intentionally and Ray Sadecki singled to load the bases. Wayne Garrett then grounded to Roger Metzger, who threw to second, forcing Sadecki, but the relay to first was too late to nail Garrett, allowing Milner to score.

The Astros tied the score at 4-4 when Cliff Johnson homered in the eighth. The Mets went ahead in the 12th with a run on singles by Milner and Hahn, together with an error by Metzger, but the Astros pulled even again in their half when Lee May doubled, Cliff Johnson beat out an infield hit and Sadecki, who covered first base, missed the throw from Felix Millan.
