On the verge of being shut out, the Brewers came alive with three runs in the ninth inning and defeated the Athletics, 3-2. The A's scoring included a homer by Bert Campaneris. With one out in the ninth, Rollie Fingers, pitching in relief for the A's, walked Darrell Porter and Johnny Briggs. Bob Hansen followed with a single to load the bases. Don Money hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Porter. Bobby Mitchell then tripled off the top of the railing in right field, driving in Tim Johnson, running for Briggs, and Bob Coluccio, running for Hansen, with the tying and winning runs.
