Mike Cuellar failed to go the route, needing help in the ninth inning, but the veteran lefthander gained his seventh straight victory when the Orioles defeated the Rangers, 6-4. Bobby Grich, who had a homer, two doubles and a sacrifice fly, drove in three runs for the Orioles. Jim Fregosi homered for the Rangers. Cuellar put two men on base in the ninth before departing in favor of Bob Reynolds, who allowed a run-scoring single by Fregosi. Grant Jackson then took over and retired the next three straight batters, striking out two. [The Sporting News]
