Although nicked for 10 hits, Mike Cuellar was able to gain his eighth straight victory when the Orioles used only five hits to beat the Twins, 4-3. In the first inning, the Orioles loaded the bases on a single by Paul Blair and walks to Bobby Grich and Earl Williams, setting the stage for a two run single by Don Baylor.

Two more walks and a single by Andy Etchebarren filled the sacks again in the fourth, leading to another run on a grounder by Blair. Baylor singled and Brooks Robinson doubled for the fourth Orioles' run in the eighth. The Twins counted twice in their half of the eighth on a single by Craig Kusick with the bases loaded and Danny Thompson then made it close with a homer in the ninth for the Twins' third run.
