. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After Burt Hooton failed to take advantage of a big lead, Jim Todd relieved and received credit for his first major league victory when the Cubs defeated the Astros, 10-7. Hooton was a better batter than pitcher, rapping a double and single in the third inning during a seven-run outburst by the Cubs. Rick Monday, Jose Cardenal, Andre Thornton and Dave Rosello also doubled as the Cubs took an 8-3 lead.

However the Astros came back with four runs off Hooton in the fourth, three scoring on a homer by Bob Watson. Todd relieved and gave up only one single in 4 1/3 innings before being removed for a pinch-hitter in the eighth when the Cubs added their last two runs on a bases loaded single by Don Kessinger. Horacio Pina pitched the ninth to complete the game. [The Sporting News]
