Derrel Thomas drove in four runs with an inside-the-park homer and single to lead the Padres to a 5-4 victory over the Expos. The Padres scored their first run in the second inning when Ernie McAnally walked Bob Barton with the bases loaded. In the third, Willie McCovey walked, Johnny Grubb doubled and Thomas followed with his homer on a 400-foot smash to center field. The Padres then added what proved to be the deciding run in the fifth when McCovey walked and Thomas singled. Ron Fairly hit a two-run homer for the Expos. [The Sporting News]
