Dave McNally hurled the route for the Orioles, allowing only four hits, and was rewarded with a victory when Boog Powell homered in the 11th inning to beat the White Sox, 4-3. The White Sox used a single by Ron Santo, two walks and a sacrifice fly by Ed Herrmann for a run in the fifth. Bobby Grich singled and Tommy Davis doubled for the tying tally in the sixth, but the White Sox went ahead in the eighth, 3-1, when Herrmann singled and Bucky Dent homered.

The Orioles rallied to knot the count with aid of an error by Dick Allen in the ninth. Grich and Davis led off with singles, bringing Cy Acosta into game in relief of Stan Bahnsen. Allen dropped a pickoff throw and Grich scored on the error. Enos Cabell, running for Davis, advanced to second and scored the tying run on a single by Elrod Hendricks. [The Sporting News]
