A grand slam by Joe Rudi and three-run homer by Sal Bando powered the Athletics to a 9-1 victory over the Yankees. Vida Blue yielded the Yankees' run in the first inning on a double by Elliott Maddox and single by Bobby Murcer. Rudi hit his grand slam off Doc Medich in the third after the A's loaded the bases on singles by Dick Green and Bill North and pass to Bando. Bando's homer came in the fifth and followed singles by Angel Mangual and Reggie Jackson. Green and North drove in the other runs with singles in the sixth as the A's snapped their four-game losing streak. [The Sporting News]
