John Montague, who allowed only one hit in 4 2/3 innings of relief, received credit for his first major league victory when the Expos defeated the Padres, 6-4. Mike Torrez, who started for the Expos, was removed with one out in the third when the Padres took a 3-2 lead. After Montague took over, the Expos tied the score in their half of the third with a double by Ken Singleton and single by Jim Cox.

Then in the fifth, after Singleton and Bob Bailey walked, Cox drove them home with a double to break the tie. Montague was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh when the Expos added another run. Chuck Taylor relieved, but Tom Walker had to take over in the ninth to register the final out of the game. [The Sporting News]
