Rennie Stennett drove in all of the Pirates' runs with a double and triple to beat the Giants, 3-2, in a game called after 8 2/3 innings because of rain. Gary Matthews accounted for both of the Giants' runs with a double in the first inning and single in the sixth. Stennett doubled a run home in the Pirates' half of the sixth.

Richie Zisk and Al Oliver singled in the eighth. Ed Ott ran for Zisk. After both runners moved up on an infield out, Stennett hit his game-deciding triple. Daryl Patterson, who joined the Pirates the night before from Charleston (International), was the winner in relief. [The Sporting News]
