An infrequently used member of the Red Sox staff, Roger Moret made his first start since May 11 and only his third in 11 appearances and posted his first victory of the season, defeating the Athletics, 6-1. Last year Moret started 15 times, relieved in 15 games and posted 13 victories. The A's scored their only run off the lefthander on a single by Jesus Alou, walk to Angel Mangual and single by Sal Bando in the fifth inning. Six different players accounted for Red Sox RBIs.
