A sacrifice fly by Bob Montgomery with the bases loaded in the 11th inning carried the Red Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Athletics. Danny Cater homered for the Red Sox in the fourth and Gene Tenace for the A's in the eighth to produce a 1-1 tie in regulation distance. Juan Beniquez doubled off Vida Blue in the 11th to pave the way for the winning run. After an infield out, Rollie Fingers replaced Blue and issued an intentional pass to Carlton Fisk. Paul Lindblad then took over for the A's and passed Bernie Carbo to load the bases before Montgomery hit his sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
