Rusty Staub drove in two runs in the fifth inning with the 300th double of his major league career to enable the Mets to defeat the Phillies, 2-1. The Phils collected 11 hits off Jerry Koosman, but scored only in the first on a single by Dave Cash, sacrifice by Larry Bowa and single by Mike Anderson. Dick Ruthven limited the Mets to five hits, but was pinned with the loss when Wayne Garrett walked, Cleon Jones singled and Staub doubled in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
