The Angels knocked out Jim Bibby in the second inning while scoring five runs and defeated the Rangers, 7-4. Tommy McCraw walked and crossed the plate on singles by Leroy Stanton and Paul Schaal to start the Angels' scoring. After a pass to Ellie Rodriguez loaded the bases. Mickey Rivers drove in two runs with a double. Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch and when Bibby, covering the plate, dropped the throw from catcher Charlie Sands, who had retrieved the ball, Rivers also slid home with the Angels' fifth run. Schaal homered in the fifth.

Nolan Ryan, pitching for the Angels, struck out 10. Jeff Burroughs, who collected three of the Rangers' nine hits, drove in three of their runs. [The Sporting News]
